From a very familiar and very short story, STDIO, like you, is developing useful and profitable products so that we can continue to grow and contribute to the industry and users. From our office, familiar desk, neat, we develop applications every day.
We usually listen to music and complete work like fixing software bugs, listening to feedback from users and developing new features.
We recently changed to a new slogan: "Apps to get more done at work", but our work has always been a lot. From these things, we again find ways to make the work done quickly so that we can work better.
At first, because of the need to design a software graphical interface, we found that the procedure of STDIO members having to do the operations of getting color codes from reference images downloaded from the internet over and over was tedious. a lot of time.
From what has happened to us and if what we think the procedures to be able to get the color code from 1 pixel on the screen or image are usually:
- Download an image (if it's on a web page) or take a screenshot.
- Open the downloaded image file (or just created from taking a screenshot) with a software that can get the color code from the image like Photoshop.
- Besides, there are also drag and drop operations, waiting for large software to be loaded and opened.
Each of these jobs takes 5 minutes, not to mention letting the support software take up the desktop workspace or with a lot of procedural operations you have to try to remember the previous procedures and have to do it. start over if you miss a step.
We have to do this job about 10 times a day and this is an invisible waste of time - 10x5 minutes ⌛. And it led to our slogan being completely meaningless 😢.
One of our members...
One of our members has created Pixel Colour to get these boring tasks done faster for our team. Then we only use 5 seconds to get the color code - 5x10 ~ 50 seconds (less then a minute).
At that time, an early version of on screen color picker was born!

It takes 3 seconds for the app to finish loading
One of our designers found that it takes 3 seconds for an application to start up, for an application to be used for 5 seconds, it takes 3 seconds to open it, that's too much. And the developers have found a way to make it load and open faster, now the app opens almost instantaneously when you need to use it.
Mouse cursor movement speed is too fast
Pixel Colour takes color from the exact position of 1 pixel on the screen, with user experience, moving the mouse pointer pixel by pixel is very difficult and inconvenient, so how to get the correct color quickly if target is a border and the border width is 1 pixel?
The built-in magnifying glass feature only supports easier mouse tracking, but cannot control the mouse's ability to move too quickly.
We added the ability to move pixel-by-pixel controlled by the keyboard. When the user moves the mouse closer to the target, the user can continue to move slowly by holding down the Ctrl or Alt key in combination with the up, down, left, right arrow keys.
This is great when every day you know that a new feature is developed that will bring convenience to everyone.
Making a contribution to our community
In order for developers and designers to quickly solve the problem of picking colors on the screen, we decided to distribute Pixel Colour. After researching, we have released Pixel Colour on the Microsoft Store to easily distribute and receive feedback and reviews from users.
The official name of Pixel Colour is Pixel Colour - Color Picker on Screen and we use the word Colour instead of Color because the word Colour has more characters (longer form) than Color to remind us that we will provide long-term support to our users. This has little impact on SEO/ASO because the keyword Color will be searched for more than Colour, but it makes sense for Pixel Colour.
We are really surprised, in just a short time, Pixel Colour has received a lot of positive reviews and feedback, in addition to suggestions for new features.
Lots of valuable feature suggestions for Pixel Colour
We appreciate Lucas' contribution, he added the Brazilian Portuguese to Pixel Colour.
Jorge Alberto suggested some features about save, delete list and it is now in the app.
And a bunch of valuable user suggestions for Pixel Colour, we collected and planed to continue designing and implementing in the near future.
The story has only just begun
This is not the end of the story but just the beginning of Pixel Colour.
Besides that we continue to write other stories like How We Build Pixel Ruler (it will be another story of an on screen ruler), but in short all the story is about what we and you guys are quietly working to create products that support the work of users, yours, ours, mine in the fastest way.
